Entrance Hall, Lounge

The gleaming black urushi relief “Goddess of Hotaka” is there to greet you when you open the door. At the lounge to the left of the entranceway you might want to relax over a you enjoy the stunning view of the northern Japanese Alps

Galleries 1, 2 and 3

These rooms house a wide range of pieces by Takahashi Setsuro, including urushi art work, bokusai-ga(black ink paintings with details in color) and calligraphy.

Omo-ya (main building)

This is the house where Takahashi Setsuro was born. Today it displays paintings and notebooks from the artist’s boyhood. It is also available to outside groups for lifelong learning programs relating to the arts and culture.
*Admission is free. Note however that the building may be closed to the general public when being rented out.

Minami-no-kura (south warehouse)

Minami-no-kura (south warehouse)
It is a 2nd floor structure and has been refurbished so that it can be used for exhibitions and seminars.Like the omo-ya, this facility is available for rental for lifelong learning programs.
*Admission is free. Note however that the building may be closed to the general public when being rented out.

Garden

The garden with its abundance of trees presents an ever-changing kaleidoscope of seasonal colors. In the days when the Takahashi family was still living here, carriages would turn around at the old pine that stands in the middle of the grounds. The driveway, or kedashi(literally “kick-out”) in the local dialect, gave access to the estate from the street to the west. The water garden and rock garden add to the serene mood. Admission is free.

Lifelong Learning

The Takahashi Setsuro Art Museum of Azumino makes its facilities available to the general public for educational activities in the fields of art and culture. Please apply if you wish to rent the minami-no-kura or omo-yafor a lifelong learning program. See the details below for information on holding events and using the facilities. Inquiries are welcome.

Omo-ya (main building)

Omo-ya has been restored to its Edo-era form when the museum opened, and the interior has been refurbished for exhibitions and events.

Tatami room

Suitable for lectures and large seminars. Also available for use as exhibition space.

Doma(an earthen floor)

Available for seminars and the like.

Minami-no-kura (south warehouse)

It is a 2nd floor structure and has been refurbished so that it can be used for exhibitions and seminars.

First floor

Suitable for small seminars and classes. The ideal size is 7-8 persons.

Second floor

Suitable for small displays.
